CANNON/BULLOCK
Richard Cannon and Richard Bullock opened their first showroom offering ‘services to designers’ at The Pacific Design Center before morphing into CANNON/BULLOCK. It was in their Melrose Place showroom where the first of their handmade and hand tinted wallpapers were created and offered to select designer clients.
At a rapid pace, Cannon/Bullock attracted national and international attention as ‘unique’ and ‘entirely handmade’. The sudden growth required a large warehouse space for production, a greatly expanded workforce, constant travel, and a whirlwind of activities demanding attention.
Celebrating nearly 30 years of working with paper, ‘The Richards’ or ‘The Paper Boys’ as they become known, have continued to experiment with new ideas and concepts, honed their craft, and explored their very natural environment, leading to such collections as ‘Saltwater’ and ‘Serenissima’. Everything coming out of their studio is truly handmade and of natural materials.
FEATURE PRODUCT
TORTOISE SHELL COLLECTION
‘Tortoise Shell’ came out of our general affection and affinity for ‘the real deal’ – when one sees it, the acrylic version we often have as eyeglass frames or costume jewelry, and – most especially – a visit to the Musée Carnavalet in Le Marais, Paris. Faux painted picture frames historically have often included Tortoise Shell panels and their colors have often been fanciful and rich. From these, we pulled 14 colors we particularly liked in this context and created this Collection. As with all of our Collections, these are entirely hand painted. With 7-8 layers of tints and high gloss sealants, they develop a deep, rich and intense color and glass like surface. To our delight, our Tortoise Shell papers have been used on as many ceilings as walls over the past few years.
